Demopolis Elite celebrates World Cup win with registration drive

IMG_0470Soccer fans in Demopolis celebrated the 2-1 World Cup victory the United States netted over Ghana Monday during a Demopolis Elite kickoff party at Batter Up.

The event, which doubled as a registration drive for Demopolis Elite, saw nearly two-dozen players register to participate in the youth soccer organization.

As part of the event, Demopolis Elite board members gave away an official jersey of the Ghana team during halftime and an official jersey of the U.S. team following the game.

IMG_0473Batter Up also donated 10 percent of the proceeds from the night to Demopolis Elite.

Demopolis Elite is currently holding free clinics throughout the summer that are conducted by Paschal Dunne.

Clinics for players aged 13 and over are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Players 12 and under can participate in a free clinic from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday.

When the league readies to resume play, it will feature familiar faces in its coaching ranks including Jeff Fendley, J.R. Rivas, Joe Veres, Ronnie Chu and others.

Registration forms are currently available at Hibbett Sports and Chu Clinic in Demopolis as well as from any Demopolis Elite board member.
