Demopolis BOE hires two at called meeting

With the approval of two more hires at a called meeting Monday, the Demopolis City Board of Education has added 20 new teachers before classes begin next week.

Approved were Jennifer Tate, art teacher at Demopolis Middle and Demopolis High schools, and Aaron Roper, JROTC Senior Instructor.

Roper will serve as a substitute in JROTC beginning Nov. 1, and then assume his position upon his military retirement on March 1, 2017.

Patricia Griffin will be the JROTC instructor through Oct. 31.

Mary Ann Sewell was approved as a long-term substitute in special education at the meeting.

Before the meeting,18 of the new teachers were treated to an orientation session.

Superintendent Kyle Kallhoff told the board that three positions remain unfilled: technology coordinator, gifted paraprofessional and Access paraprofessional. They will voted on at the September meeting.

The regular meeting of the board will be held Aug. 15 at 4 p.m.
