Demopolis 10U Tigers win South Division

The Demopolis 10U Tigers took won the South Region of the Juniors Division of the West Alabama Youth Football Association Saturday morning with a 28-0 victory over Hale County.

The semi-final win in the AYFA playoffs keeps Demopolis unbeaten and sets it up with a championship game next Saturday in Pickens County.

“It’s a lot of hard work. These guys have been there before. They are all experienced. But we’ve just got to finish. We’ve been there too many times and lost. We’ve got a different team this year. We’ve got a lot of leaders that take a lot of pride in winning,” head coach Jim Logan said of his team, which is the only unbeaten team in its age division.”

The Tigers opened the scoring with 3:27 to play in the first quarter when C.J. Williams broke a 51-yard touchdown run to put his team up 6-0.

On the next Demopolis possession, Williams struck again with a 66-yard scoring run with 1:08 left in the opening quarter. Peyton Stevenson then found Keyjun Gracie in the end zone for the two-point conversion throw to put the Tigers up 14-0.

After Zamarian Bulger recovered a fumbled kickoff to open the second half, C.J. Sandridge capped a six-play, 48-yard drive with a 17-yard touchdown run. Sandridge then added the conversion run to make it 21-0.

Demopolis found the end zone again with 2:41 to go in the third quarter when Williams rumbled for a 10-yard score on a play set up by his own 32-yard run. Stevenson punched in the conversion to invoke the mercy rule and hand Demopolis the victory.

Williams ended the day with 205 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries to pace the Tigers offense.

Demopolis will look to win its first AYFA championship next week after having seen various age groups make title game appearances to no avail over the last several years.

“We’ve been there in the championship I don’t know how many times. We’ve got to take care of business here though,” Logan said.
