DCS offering $4,000 bonus for high demand teachers

At its November meeting, the Demopolis City Board of Education voted unanimously to offer a $4,000 incentive for new teachers to the system who are certified in special education (K-12), math (6-12) and/or science (6-12).

This incentive is structured over two academic years with $2,000 awarded on the first contract day of the first year, an additional $1,000 awarded on the first contract day of the second year, and the remaining $1,000 awarded on the first contract day of the third year.

“The Demopolis City School System is always seeking the best teachers in Alabama,” said Demopolis City School System superintendent, Kyle Kallhoff, “but it is getting difficult for rural areas of the state to compete for teachers in high demand areas.

“Our colleges of education are producing fewer and fewer math, science and special education teachers, and those who are on the market will not come to rural Alabama unless we find an incentive to attract them our way.”
