Commission awards tree service contract

In a short regular session Tuesday, the quorum of three members of the Marengo County Commission took care of a number of items and tabled others until a later date.

The Commission approved a $1,600 quote from South Alabama Tree Service to remove two trees at Chickasaw Park.

In other business:

  • Jamya Thompson was hired as a new assistant clerk.
  • Summer workers will start at the pay period beginning June 29.
  • The Commission tabled appointments of directors to the Marengo County Emergency Communications office from Districts 1, 3 and 5.
  • The Shooting Range will be closed for SWAT training July 25-29.
  • Commissioners approved Calvin Martin to continue as the county’s Legislative Committee representative.
  • Revenue Commissioners Sharon HIlbish presented the final settlement report showing no insolvents and adjustments that had been made.

At its last meeting, commissioners determined the county is not required to provide internet service to the occupants of the County Annex building. However, after further investigation, it was determined the county must provide the service.

Commissioner Jason Windham said striping is being completed at the Demopolis City Landing, and the project should be turned over this week.

“The phone is ringing off the hook” with people calling to book tournaments at the landing, he said.
