Carolyn “Betty” McCormick

Carolyn Elizabeth Schettgen McCormick, 91, of Demopolis, died Saturday, July 6 at her residence. She was born March 23, 1922, in Jefferson County to George Alphonse and Eloise Rachel Schettgen. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Guy McCormick Jr.; and sister, Eldra Louise Schettgen Hallman. She is survived by her brother, Eugene Frederick Schettgen of Atlanta, Ga.; nieces, Lindsey Hallman (Walker) Wilson of Jasper, Peyton Hallman (Ted) Kennel of Ringgold, Ga., Kim Schettgen of Atlanta, and Kerri Schettgen of Atlanta; and nephews, Victor (Monica) Hallman of Birmingham, Christopher (Charlene) Hallman of Pinson, and Tyler (Maury) Hallman of Mountain Brook. A member of the Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital Auxiliary since 1993, Mrs. McCormick was an avid supporter of the hospital. An annual scholarship awarded by the Auxiliary to children and grandchildren of hospital employees is named in her honor. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 9 with a 10 a.m. mass at St. Leo Catholic Church in Demopolis with Father Larry officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. at Elwood Cemetery in Birmingham. Visitation was held Monday from 4-6 p.m. with a Rosary service at 6 p.m. There will also be visitation Tuesday from 9-10 a.m. Pallbearers will be Victor Hallman, Christopher Hallman, Tyler Hallman, Ted Kennel, Walker Wilson and Nicholas Hallman. Honorary pallbearer is Noah Hallman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.
