Bulldogs take down Panthers, 48-0

The Sweet Water Bulldogs piled on the yards and points against their in-county opponent, the Marengo High School Panthers, on Friday night. The Bulldogs tallied 462 yards of total offense, while holding the Panthers to only 44 yards of total offense on the night. The score reflected the disparity in the stats, with the Bulldogs claiming a 48-0 win.

Jaland Lewis Horton started the Bulldogs scoring with a 12-yard touchdown run with 5:19 to go in the first quarter. The PAT was unsuccessful and the Bulldogs took a 6-0 lead.

At the 8:07 mark of the second quarter, Jaylin Dixon ran in from 8 yards out. Horton added the 2-point conversion run to give the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead over the Panthers. With 3:33 to go in the half, Dixon claimed his second TD with a 35-yard run. Michael Alan Cole connected on the PAT and the Dawgs stretched their lead to 21-0, which they would take into halftime.

Horton added his second TD on a 41-yard run with 6:08 to go in the third quarter. Cole’s PAT was good and the Bulldog lead climbed to 28-0. With 2:00 to go in the third, Braiden Broussard hit Sasha Smith for a 10-yard TD pass. Cole’s successful PAT pushed the Bulldog lead to 35-0.

With 10:45 to go in the game, Horton picked up his third TD of the game on a 14-yard run. A missed PAT left the Bulldogs with a 41-0 lead over the Panthers. The final trip into the end zone was claimed by Walker Thompson, at the 3:19 mark of the fourth quarter. Cole connected on his final PAT attempt and the Dawgs closed out the scoring for the night, leading 48-0.

Statistically, Broussard tallied 22 yards passing, going 3 for 4 and getting a touchdown. Horton finished with 216 yards on 22 carries with three touchdowns. Dixon picked up 118 yards on 12 carries and scored twice. Xavier Lucy added 79 yards on 11 carries. Broussard had 19 yards on four carries and Thompson had one carry for the 8-yard touchdown.

Smith, Horton and Dixon each caught a pass. Smith had the 10-yard TD catch. Horton and Dixon both had a 6-yard catch.

Sweet Water (7-0, 4-0) stays undefeated and hosts J.F. Shields next week..
