Bulldogs sink Pirates, 46-6

The Sweet Water Bulldogs continued their domination of region opponents on Thrusday night by taking down the Fruitdale Pirates, 46-6. After rolling up 371 yards of total offense in last week’s contest with the Marengo Panthers, the Dawgs bettered that total with 382 yards against the Pirates. Sweet Water put 20 points on the board in the first quarter, then tacked on another 19 for a 39-0 halftime lead. The Dawgs added another score in the third and gave up a lone touchdown at the end of regulation for the 46-6 final.

The Bulldogs kicked to the Pirates to open the game and the defense forced the Pirates to punt. A short punt from the Pirate 23-yard line gave the Bulldogs possession at the Pirate 38-yard line. Jaland Lewis-Horton put the Dawgs first points on the board of the night on a 12-yard run with 10:02 to go in the first quarter. Walker Thompson’s PAT gave the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead over the Pirates.

Following the Pirates’ second punt of the night, Lashon Young picked up a touchdown run of 5 yards at the 5:56 mark of the first quarter. The PAT failed but Bulldogs claimed a 13-0 lead over the Pirates.

Fruitdale’s third possession ended with their third punt of the night. Jaland Lewis-Horton picked up his second touchdown of the night with 30 seconds remaining in the first quarter. The 7-yard run and Thompson’s PAT stretched the Bulldog lead to 20-0 over the Pirates.

Following the Pirates’ fourth punt on the ensuing kick, Trace Luke got into the end zone on a 5-yard run. Thompson’s successful PAT increased the Dawgs’ lead to 27-0 with 9:49 remaining in the second quarter.

The Bulldog defense continued its domination of the Pirates by forcing a fifth punt in as many possessions by the Pirates. Elliot Lucy notched a touchdown run of 23 yards for the Bulldogs at the 5:36 mark of the second quarter. The PAT failed, but the Dawgs had a 33-0 lead.

After another Pirate punt, Delvontae Lucy made his mark in the scoring column on a 6-yard touchdown run. The PAT was unsuccessful, leaving the Bulldogs with a 39-0 lead with 50 seconds remaining in the first half.

The decision was made to play eight minutes quarters in the second half and the Bulldogs used up most of those eight minutes after receiving the opening second half kickoff. The Dawgs tallied their final touchdown of the night at the 2:53 mark of the third quarter when Caleb Dixon got into the end zone on a 4-yard run. Thompson’s PAT gave the Dawgs their final points of the night and a 46-0 lead.

The Pirates managed to get a 46-yard touchdown pass on the last play of the game for the final score of 46-6.

The 382 yards compiled by the Bulldogs came on 37 rushes for 335 yards and 47 yards on three passes. Lewis-Horton led the Bulldogs with 6 carries for 98 yards with two touchdowns. Eliot Lucy had one touchdown on 5 carries and collected 59 yards. Luker had 4 carries for 52 yards and one touchdown. Delvontae Lucy had three carries for 52 yards and one touchdown. In addition to his 37 passing yards, Thompson added three carries for 30 yards. Dixon had one touchdown on six carries and totaled 28 yards. Young scored one touchdown on two carries with 16 yards. Deion Blanks had 13 yards on three carries and Trent Smith had two carries for 12 yards.

The Bulldog defense held the Pirates to 17 yards rushing and 103 yards passing for a total of 120 yards of offense – with 46 of those yards coming on the final play of the game.

The Bulldogs (3-0, 2-0) will host the Jay (FL) Royals next Friday in Sweet Water.
