Bulldogs, rain douse Demons 54-0

After a power outage due to a thunderstorm delayed the start of their game until 8:15 p.m., the Sweet Water Bulldogs made up for lost time by scoring 28 points in the first quarter to set the tone for their game against the visiting McIntosh Demons. The Dawgs added 14 in the second quarter to hold a 42-0 at the half and added another 12 in the second half to douse the Demons 54-0 in an area matchup.

Sasha Smith started the scoring for the Bulldogs when he returned a Demon punt 60 yards for the only points the Dawgs would need to win the game. Michael Alan Cole’s PAT put the Bulldogs up 7-0 with 10:27 to go in the first quarter. Just to prove it wasn’t blind luck, Smith returned the second Demon punt 65 yards for his second touchdown, just a little over two minutes later at the 8:04 mark. Cole’s PAT extended the Bulldog lead to 14-0.

Xavier Lucy made his mark on the scoreboard with 3:54 left in the first quarter, on a 26 yard run. Cole’s PAT was good and the Bulldogs took a 21-0 lead. Willie Lewis got in on the first quarter scoring at the 1:55 mark, when he punched it in from the 1-yard line. Another Cole’s PAT ended the first quarter scoring at 28-0, in favor of the Bulldogs.

Jaylin Dixon was the next Bulldog to get his name on the scoring sheet, when he notched a 13-yard run to the end zone. Cole’s PAT put the Bulldogs up 35-0 with 8:30 to go in the second quarter. Jaland Lewis Horton matched Dixon with a 13-yard touchdown run of his own at the 4:39 mark of the second quarter. The last Cole PAT try of the night was true again and the Bulldogs took a 42-0 lead into halftime.

At the 4:00 mark of the third quarter, William Etheridge and Lashon Young connected on a 36-yard touchdown pass. An unsuccessful PAT left the score at 48-0 in favor of the Dawgs. Deshanard Blanks rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs when he crossed the goal line on a 4-yard run with 6:06 to go in the game. An unsuccessful PAT game the Dawgs a final victory margin of 54-0 over the Demons.

The Bulldogs defense was outstanding on the night, dropping the Demons for a -31 yards of total offense on 25 plays for the game. The Demons had 39 passing yards, but lost 70 yards rushing. Braiden Broussard, Antonio Sullivan and Trent Smith had interceptions for the Bulldogs.

The Dawgs needed only 19 plays to tally 210 yards of total offense. Etheridge completed the only pass of the night, which went to Young for the 36 yard score. Dixon and Walker Thompson each had three carries for 36 yards, with Dixon getting a touchdown. Getting two carries each were Horton (34 yards, 1 TD), Lucy (32 yards, 1 TD), Christian Dunning (15 yards) and Devonte Blanks (2 yards). Lewis added one touchdown carry for one yard. Cole was a perfect 6-for-6 on PATs on the night.

The Bulldogs remain undefeated on the year and will make the short trip to Dixons Mills next week for another region game against the Marengo Panthers.
