Bulldogs get 51-6 region win over Wildcats

The Sweet Water Bulldogs proved to be ungracious hosts to the St. Luke’s Episcopal Wildcats on Friday night. The Bulldogs would score all the points they needed for the win in the first quarter with nine points. However the Dawgs would add another 42 to that en route to defeating the Wildcats 51-6.

The Bulldogs defense started the scoring at the 10:02 mark of the first quarter when they recorded a safety, to put the Dawgs up 2-0. The Bulldogs then struck again with 8:35 to go in the first quarter, when Braiden Broussard connected with Sasha Smith for a 35-yard touchdown pass. Michael Alan Cole’s PAT was good and the Bulldogs took a 9-0 lead over the Wildcats. The quarter would end with that score.

Broussard connected with Anotonio Sullivan for a 26-yard touchdown pass with 10:45 to go in the second quarter and a successful 2-point conversion run by Xavier Lucy stretched the Bulldog lead to 17-0 over the Wildcats. At the 2:04 mark, Jaland Lewis Horton scored on a 2-yard run. Cole’s PAT was good and the Dawgs increased their lead to 24-0. Lewis Horton scored his second touchdown of the night on a 4-yard run with five seconds to go in the half. The PAT put the Dawgs up 31-0 to close out the first half.

The Bulldogs slowed down a bit in the third quarter, but Jaylin Dixon got the on the board again with 2:00 to go. Dixon’s 2-yard run gave the Dawgs a 38-0 lead after adding a successful PAT. The Wildcats posted no points and the quarter ended with the Bulldogs holding the 38-0 lead.

At the 11:26 mark of the fourth quarter, Walker Thompson scored on a 1-yard run. The PAT failed and the Dawgs had a 44-0 lead. The Bulldogs’ Lashon Young got to the end zone on a 24-yard run with 3:29 to go in the game. Lewis Horton added the PAT to give the Bulldogs a 51-0 lead. The Wildcats added a 2-yard touchdown run with 12 seconds to go in the game, but missed the kick, to give the final score of 51-6.

Braiden Broussard was 4-for-8 for 101 yards with two touchdowns. Smith had one catch for 35 yards and a score. Sullivan had one catch for 26 yards and a score. Lewis Horton had 17 carries for 81 yards with two touchdowns. Dixon had 7 carries for 52 yards and a score. Young had one carry for the 24-yard touchdown and Thompson had three carries for 18 yards with one touchdown.

The undefeated Bulldogs travel to Millry next week for another region matchup.
