BOE accepts teacher resignation

The Demopolis City Schools Board of Education accepted the resignation of middle school science teacher Heidi Nettles during a special called meeting Thursday.

Nettles, a sixth grade teacher who started with DCS in 2000, tendered her resignation effective Friday.

“We hate to lose a good teacher in Heidi Nettles,” Demopolis City Schools Superintendent Dr. Al Griffin said. “She is taking a job with the Alabama Education Association.”

The school board voted to open the position for seven days. The board also opened a spot for a Special Education Aide at U.S. Jones Elementary for seven days.

The board also voted to approve the hire of Nick Bussey as the new Demopolis High School agriscience teacher. The agriscience position became vacant when Trent Wells tendered his resignation in November.

“Nick lives in Gallion and his wife is a veterinarian. Nick graduated from Tennessee Tech and did part of his study at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville,” Griffin said of Bussey. “He has worked as a welder, has been an inventory specialist at a poultry farm and has worked in about every area of livestock you can work in.”
