Backyard poultry processing offered

Processing poultry, from slaughter to proper storage, will be a workshop offered by the Marengo County Extension Office at its office in Linden Friday, Oct. 25.

The program will begin at 8:30 am with information on backyard chicken processing, what procedures we are going to use and why. Participants will discuss how to turn a live chicken into a whole carcass ready for the freezer or the dinner table.

The program will start with live chickens, and the class will have the opportunity to take part in every stage of the process including slaughter, scalding, defeathering, evisceration, and chilling.

A registration fee of $10 per participant is due by Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the Marengo County Extension Office. Space is limited to 20 participants and is first come first serve. Pre-registration is required by calling (334) 295-5959.
