City attorney Bill Poole shot at his office

Attorney Bill Poole suffered a gunshot wound while at his office on Strawberry Street just before 7:30 a.m. Friday according to the Demopolis Police Department.

DPD Chief Tommie Reese indicated Poole was transported to Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital to undergo surgery for a gunshot wound to the chest. A press release from the Demopolis Police Department said the public should not be alarmed and that the family is asking for both prayers and privacy.

Poole is currently in the intensive care unit.

“Right now the shooting itself is under investigation,” Reese said. No further details are available at this time.

Poole has held the position of city attorney since 2011 and is currently the mayor of Dayton. He is the father or Alabama State Representative Bill Poole of Northport.
