ATN to offer pump systems training in Thomasville

The Alabama Technology Network will offer Pump Systems Training at Alabama Southern Community College on June 25. This course offers hands-on labs for each participant to work through.

Participants will learn general lockout/tagout considerations for pumping systems as well as recognizing hazards. They will learn the general classification of pumps and be introduced to various types of both positive-displacement and non positive-displacement pumps.

Participants will be briefly introduced to variable speed drives and learn to access and update parameters for monitoring and modifying motor performance. Through hands-on exercises they will explore pump performance curves and understand pump cavitation, air entrainment and the consequences of dead-heading pumps.

Participants will also disassemble, inspect and reassemble various types of pumps. Finally, they will be introduced to pump life expectancy considerations and learn how to flow-test to recognize a worn positive displacement pump.

Topics include centrifugal pumps, multi-stage, mag drive, axial pumps, turbine pumps, reciprocating pumps, piston pumps, diaphram pumps, metering pumps, rotary pumps, external gear pumps, internal gear pumps, vane pumps, flexible impeller pumps, peristalic pumps, head vs. PSI, components of head, static head, head loss, velocity head, life expectancy vs. load, life expectancy vs. RPM, chemicals, vibration, and alignment & coupling life.

The class will last from 8:00 am to 4:40 pm. Lunch is provided. The cost is $195 and space is limited. For more information, visit http://www.atn.org/workshops.php or call
