5th Young Authors’ Symposium to showcase student talent

For the fifth year, aspiring authors in Demopolis schools will be featured at the Young Authors’ Symposium.

Two students from each grade, K-12, have been chosen to be interviewed and display their work Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Demopolis High School beginning at 6 p.m.

Each student will receive a certificate, an age-appropriate book and gift certificates from local businesses. They also will be given a special t-shirt designed by Gabe Daniels.

The authors will be interviewed on stage in the DHS auditorium. After all 26 answer questions, they will adjourn to the gymnasium. There students will stand by individual displays of their work, and they will be available to answer questions from spectators.

High school writers were told of the symposium at the beginning of the school year. Those interested received help from their English teachers. After the entries were completed, their peers read them and voted on the ones they liked best.

Each elementary teacher selected four entries. Those writings were narrowed to two winners for each grade.
