10-17-2017 Marengo Academy PeeWee vs Patrician (with gallery)

10-17-17 — Linden, Ala. — The Marengo Academy PeeWee football team storms the field prior to their game against the Patrician Academy Saints.

Linden – On Tuesday night, the Marengo Academy PeeWee football team hosted Patrician Academy Saints for a regional championship game. While the Longhorns ultimately fell to the visiting Saints, the Longhorns put up a valiant effort in a game that was one of the better football games to be witnessed this year.

10-17-17 — Linden, Ala. — Marengo Academy Longhorn McGuire Davis breaks free on a 70-yard touchdown run against the Patrician Academy Saints.

The Longhorns got on the board on their first possession with a 70-yard touchdown run by McGuire Davis with 6:15 to go in the first quarter. An unsuccessful PAT would give the ‘Horns a 6-0 lead.  But, the lead would not last long as Patrician’s Carson Coody ran it in from 62 yards out on the Saints’ first possession. An unsuccessful PAT by the Saints would leave the score knotted at 6-6 with 4:55 to go in the first quarter.

The Saints’ next possession would see Coody take the ball 59 yards for his second touchdown of the first quarter at the :50 mark. A successful 2-pt conversion gave the Saints a 14-6 lead over the Longhorns. The first quarter would end with Patrician leading Marengo 14-6.

The Longhorns were the first to strike in the second quarter, when Caleb Cobb scored on a 28-yard run with 6:07 to go. An unsuccessful PAT would bring the Longhorns to within two points at 14-12. Coody and the Saints responded quickly with a 70-yard touchdown run with 5:47 to go in the first half. The unsuccessful PAT would give the Saints a 20-12 lead and the first half would end with that score.

With 5:57 to go in the third quarter, Coody struck again, this time, from 50 yards out. the 2-point conversion would stretch the Longhorn deficit to 28-12. The Longhorns would be unable to score in the third quarter.

10-17-17 — Linden, Ala. — Marengo Academy’s Caleb Cobb outruns a Saint’s defender during the Longhorns game against Patrician Academy.

Marengo’s Cobb would help pull the ‘Horns within 10 points with a 45-yard run at the 7:02 mark of the fourth quarter. A successful 2-point conversion would pull the ‘Horns within eight points of the Saints at 28-20. However, the Saints’ Coody would collect his fifth and final touchdown of the night on a 47-yard run with 4:35 to go in the game. An failed PAT would stretch the Saints’ lead over the Longhorns to 34-20. Never giving up, the Longhorns drove to the Saints’ 10-yard line and Cobb added his third touchdown of the night. A successful 2-point conversion closed the Longhorn deficit to 34-28 with 1:03 to go in the game. The Longhorns gave a great effort at a defensive stand, but were unable to hold the Saints who ran the clock out on their following possession.
