UWA to host area students for “Kitchen Chemistry” on Aug. 27

LIVINGSTON, Ala.— The University of West Alabama’s College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics invites elementary and high school students in and around Sumter County to Science Saturdays on Aug. 27 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Bibb Graves Hall Room 102 on the UWA campus. UWA Professor Dr. Mustafa Morsy will present a workshop titled “Kitchen Chemistry.”

In this month’s event, students will learn how to use household items to conduct experiments and see the fun in their reactions, like creating a lava lamp, writing in secret ink, and creating crystal snowflakes.

Science Saturdays are designed to give K-12 students early exposure to the world of science and mathematics. The sessions create excitement and enthusiasm that students need to not only learn the basics of science but also gain the tools to further their studies in the field.

The workshop is free and open to all children in fourth through twelfth grades. Spaces are limited. For more information or to reserve a spot, please email Rosie Campbell (rmc@uwa.edu) or call 205-652-3414. For more information, please visit www.uwa.edu/sciencesaturdays/.
