Three-in-one businesses hold ribbon-cuttings

Scissors from the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce got a workout Thursday when three businesses held ribbon-cuttings. All three are located at 200 S. Cedar St., and all are relatively new.

Anne Freeman, left, and Dana Freeman chose fashions that appeal to them for Canebrake Creations.

Dana Freeman and her mother-in-law Anne Freeman call Canebrake Creations their retirement fund. Anne Freeman is a retired teacher, and Dana will retire from teaching in a few years. In the past the duo has opened pop-up stores and sold merchandise online.

They have chosen casual, easy fit, easy care clothing for their customers by trying to stock things “that fit us, our age and our styles,” said Dana Freeman.  “We want to make sure they feel good about themselves.” Recently they began to stock designs that appeal to a younger set.

The store also has gifts, lingerie and shoes and offers a wedding registry. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Anne Camille Manning, seated, and Jenn Plowman have opened the beauty salon Muse to serve members of the whole family.

Jenn Plowman has been a cosmetologist for 20 years but only recently moved to Demopolis from Gordo when her husband took a job with the new pellet plant. She met Anna Camille Manning who wanted to set up her own salon, and the two founded Muse.

The beauty shop offers a full line of services, including hair care for everyone in the family, waxing, make-up and the sale of hair products.

At least one of the owners is on site at Muse Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Appointments can be made on Saturdays for special events.

Friends, family, Mayor Woody Collins and DACC director David Lyons were on hand to watch Addison Seale cut the ribbon for Reese & River.

Reese & River owner Addison Seale is “excited to bring a new business to Demopolis” with her children’s boutique.

In addition to clothing for infants through six years, the store has gifts, costumes and layette items and offers a baby registry.

Since Seale holds a full-time job, Reese & River is open Monday through Thursday from 3:30-5:30 p.m. and every other Saturday. Online sales are available.
