McQuown, who served on active duty from 1980-88, is walking to the steps of every state capitol in an effort to raise awareness of veterans. “Every step taken helps us remember that through the sacrifice of many we have the freedom to take them,” his website reads.

The walk of more than 15,000 miles is made “to bring an overdue and well-deserved light upon all veterans,” the site adds, “young and old, male and female, from both past and current conflicts, for anyone who has ever donned the uniform of the United States Armed Forces.”

McQuown also points out the importance of praying for veterans who have ever been or currently are POW and/or MIA.

So far, McQuown has walked to eight state capitols, plus the U.S. Capitol, and has walked through 10 states. His journey has taken him 2,442 miles thus far.

McQuown will speak at River of Life, located on N. Walnut, at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
