UWA women’s golf has banner weekend

rp_primary_IMG_0129SUNSET BEACH, S.C. – West Alabama women’s golf carded a season best of 20-over par 308 to finish fourth place out of 18 teams in round one of the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate Myrtle Beach South Creek Golf Course on Monday.

“We battled through tough rainy conditions to fire an outstanding score today,” said UWA head golf coach Adam Buie. “We have already set both team and individual records this weekend and we hope that will help us to end strong in the final round tomorrow.”

Christine Stryken led the Tigers with a season low of 2-over par 74 to finish the day in ninth place. Savannah Payne, who recorded the program’s first ever hole-in-one in Sunday’s warm-up round, tied for 17th overall with 4-over par 76.

Jessica Smyth ended in 23rd with her best single round score of 77. Tori Smith finished with an 81 while Ida Bergli recorded an 88.

Saint Leo University currently leads the tournament with 2-over par 290.

Women’s golf returns to the green Tuesday in the tournament’s final round.
