UWA outdoor track season opens Saturday

LIVINGSTON – The University of West Alabama men and women’s outdoor track teams open their respective seasons Saturday at the MC Season Opener, hosted by Mississippi College at Robinson-Hale Stadium and James E. Parkman Track.

Field events get underway at 10 a.m. and track events begin at 1 p.m. Overall, 18 teams will compete and UWA will field 16 entries, 12 men and six women, in 11 events.

“I’m anxious to watch my team compete. The MC Season Opener is a great early season meet,” first-year Tiger track coach Ray Stanfield said. “We will double almost everyone so I can not only see how their competitive juices flow, but also get a great training session in.”

Warren Enriquez will compete in the 3000 steeplechase, while Chris Huber is entered in both the 200 and 400 meters. Coy Graham, Stedmon Kugler and Jamaal Elkins will run the men’s 800, while Zach Mosley, Rafael Duenes and Kugler are entered in the men’s 1500. Brandon Nelson, Kenny Slavick, Adam Parrish and Mosley will compete in the 5000 meters and the Tigers will field a team in the 4×400 relay.

Shechinah Adams is entered in the women’s 800 and 1500, while Laura Mancin, Cayla Noussain and Jordan Story are scheduled to run in both the 1500 and 5000 meter runs. Asia Lockhart is entered in the women’s 400 meter.
