UWA cracks D2Football.com poll at No. 19

LIVINGSTON — After starting the season 2-0, the West Alabama football team broke into the D2Football.com Top 25 poll at No. 19 this week.

The Tigers are one of four Gulf South Conference teams ranked by the online publication that bills itself at “The Center of the D2 World.” North Alabama (1-0) is ranked sixth, while Valdosta State (2-0) and Delta State (1-0) are 14th and 16th, respectively. For the first time this season the Tigers are ranked in both NCAA Division II football polls. UWA is No. 17 in this week’s American Football Coaches Association rankings. The Tigers are ninth in the Bennett Rankings, which relies on team, and conference performance, as well as strength of schedule, instead of subjective rankings.

West Alabama travels to FCS member Jacksonville State this Saturday for a 3 p.m. kickoff at Burgess-Snow Field at JSU Stadium. The Gamecocks are ranked eighth in one FCS poll and ninth in another.
