Turnovers limit Sumter in loss to Jackson

Jackson Academy took advantage of five Sumter turnovers in a 60-26 victory Friday night, Oct. 10.
Jackson led 6-0 when Sumter Academy’s Clay Truelove connected with Blake Jowers on a 7-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 6-6. Jackson Academy retook the lead at 14-6 on a 3-yard run by Adam Powell and stretched the lead to 20-6 on a 2-yard Powell run. Clay Truelove closed the gap to 20-12 with a 31-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. A Sumter turnover just before halftime, led to a 55-yard run by JA’s Daniel Eckstein to put Jackson ahead 27-12.
Jackson Academy would score 26 points in the third quarter to put the game out of reach after taking advantage of two turnovers by Sumter. Clay Truelove scored his second rushing touchdown of the night in the third quarter with a 16-yard run. Truelove would find Zach Maness for a 14-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. Jackson would tack on another score in the fourth with a 25-yard run by Zac Singleton.
Truelove rushed for 133 yards on 17 attempts and passed for 140 yards. Nathan Williamson picked up 44 yards rushing. Anderson Newman threw for 53 yards. Blake Jowers led the Sumter receivers with six catches for 100 yards and Zach Maness added 49 yards on three receptions. On the defensive side, Jowers had 10 stops and Blaine Winsett picked up six tackles.
The Eagles will travel on Oct. 17 to take on Lowndes Academy.
