Tigers trounce Dallas County in Saturday double-header

Demopolis (7-5, 2-0) finished a season sweep of Dallas County Saturday, moving to 2-0 in area play with an 11-2 win before notching an 8-1 victory in the bonus game.

The wins came less than 24 hours after Demopolis downed Dallas County 10-1 in the area opener.

The first half of Saturday’s twinbill saw the Tigers score one run in each of the first five innings before hanging two on the board in the sixth and four in the seventh.

Ryan Schroeder went 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBIs. Jamarcus Ezell scored a pair of runs.

R.J. Cox went 1-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Jacob Rodrigues went 1-for-4 with one RBI. Wil Stephens scored two runs. Jay Craig went 1-for-2 with one RBI and two runs scored. Seth Aiken drove in one run and scored two. Hunter Colyar finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Luke Yelverton cruised to a complete game for the Tigers, striking out 16 batters over seven innings of work while allowing only three hits and two unearned runs.

The Tigers followed that victory with an 8-1 win in which the Demopolis junior varsity populated most of the lineup.

Demopolis scored two runs in the first, one run in each of the second through fourth innings, one in the sixth and two in the seventh for the win.

Jonathon Lewis went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, one RBI and two runs scored. Chandler Barton went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Colyar finished 1-for-4 with two runs scored. Ryan Morrison was 1-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Jordan Grace finished 1-for-2 with one RBI. Matthew Trest scored a run. Nick Nelson went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Wesley Holemon scored a run.

Lewis notched the win on the mound, working three innings while scattering three hits, striking out two and allowing one earned run.

Craig followed with two innings of scoreless work, striking out two, walking two and allowing two hits. Nick Nelson finished with five strikeouts over two innings while issuing one walk.
