Tigers sweep Bibb in double-header
Demopolis (10-2) swept a double-header from Bibb County Tuesday night, taking the front end 4-3 and the nightcap 8-6..
The Tigers gave up a run in the first inning of game one and trailed until the home half of the fourth when they hung a two spot on the board thanks to the heart of their order. Mason Rogers started the inning with a single and eventually scored on a double by Wesley Anderson.
A bunt single by Tyler Oates advanced Anderson to third before a grounder by Will Tucker scored the run. After Bibb tied the game in the top of the fifth, Demopolis regained the lead when a Rogers RBI double plated Josh Mangum, who led off the inning with a bunt single. Anderson then hit a sacrifice fly that plated Matt Eicher, who reached on a single.
Rogers, who threw out three base stealers on the night from his catcher position, came on to pick up the save with two strikeouts in the seventh.
Anderson started the game on the mound, working four innings and striking out three while scattering three hits and walking one. Eicher (2-1) picked put the win in relief.
Game two again saw Demopolis spot the Choctaws a run in the top of the first inning. The Tigers managed to tie the game in the bottom of the second when Anderson scored from third on a passed ball after reaching on an error and stealing second.
The Tigers gave up a run in the top of the fourth to go down 2-1 before answering with a three-run rally in the home half of the inning.
Brock Montgomery led off the inning with a walk before Rogers singled. A sacrifice bunt by Anderson moved both runners into scoring position before Tyler Oates worked his way through a 10-pitch at-bat to rip a two-RBI single and put the Tigers back on top. Stephen Stewart followed with a double to score Oates and push the Demopolis lead to 4-2.
The Tigers added two more in the fifth when Mangum led off with a double and scored on a RBI single from Montgomery.
After Montgomery swiped second base, Rogers moved him to third on a single before Anderson drove him home on a sacrifice fly.
The Tigers hung two more on the board in the sixth when Devin Stroud singled to ignite a rally before scoring on an error. Montgomery then stroked an RBI single to score Josh Mangum and put the Tigers up 8-3. Oates came on with one out in the seventh to preserve the win and pick up the save.
Tucker (2-0) worked the first four innings to pick up the win.
The Tigers are scheduled to play again Saturday against Trinity Presbyterian and Saint James in Montgomery.
