Auburn High quarterback Bradley Northcutt’s clutch passing made him this week’s ASWA Offensive Player of the Week.

Northcutt threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Tyus O’Neal-El with 59 seconds remaining to lift Auburn to a 42-25 victory over Carver-Montgomery in an AHSAA Class 6A quarterfinal. He finished 18-of-31 passing for 305 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions, and added 65 yards and a score on the ground.

“I looked downfield and Tyus O’Neal looked like he was kinda getting tackled,” Northcutt told AL.com after the game.” He looked like he was going down. I just threw it up, then I got hit. When I got up, I just heard everyone go crazy and we won. It was awesome.”

Northcutt edged Sweet Water’s Jacoby Aldridge and Pickens County’s Jermarcus Brown for this week’s award.

Aldridge ran for 335 yards and four touchdowns in a 34-24 Class 2A quarterfinal victory at Luverne. Brown rushed for 261 yards on 33 carries and scored three touchdowns in a 41-21 win over Ragland, scoring on a 47-yard punt return, a 48-yard run and a 9-yard run.

This week’s ASWA Defense/Special Teams Player of the Week winner is Edgewood Academy’s David Cayton. He returned a fumble 85 yards for a touchdown, made a last-minute interception, and had six tackles in a 62-51 victory over Clarke Prep as the Wildcats won their 45th straight game and secured the AISA AA title.

The finalists for the defensive/special teams award are Saraland’s Tyler Sims and Marengo Academy’s Brant Lewis.

Sims intercepted at St. Paul’s pass in double overtime, leading to a 20-14 quarterfinal win by the Spartans. Lewis kicked a 31-yard field goal with three seconds remaining in a 31-28 win over Restoration for the AISA Class A title. Lewis also averaged 40.3 yards on three punts, 48.5 yards on six kickoffs, and was 4-of-4 on extra points.

Other players named among the Week 13 standouts included Marengo Academy sophomore Hayden Huckabee, who ran for 148 yards and three touchdowns in the Longhorns’ state title game win over Restoration. Huckabee also scrambled for 28 yards and then hit Cason Cook on a pass to set up Lewis’ 31-yard field goal.
