Swindle earns GSC Offensive Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM — West Alabama running back Javae Swindle has been named the Gulf South Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Tigers 63-17 victory over Shorter on Saturday.

This is the first player of the week award for the GSC’s leading rusher and the third different UWA offensive honoree this season. The 5-4, 162-pound sophomore carried the ball 13 times for 182 yards (14.0 ypc) and three touchdowns against the Hawks.

The Thorsby, Ala., native did not play after the five minute mark in the third quarter against Shorter on his way to becoming just the third player in school history to run for over 1,000 yards in a season (1,106).

Swindle and the Tigers end the regular season by hosting Central State at Tiger Stadium Saturday at 6 p.m.
