Shelton State accepting applications for Truck Driver Training in Demopolis
Shelton State Community College is accepting applications now for its first Truck Driver Training Program.
The eight-week course begins Oct. 15 and meets Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Fridays from 7 a.m. to noon at the former New Era building on Walnut Avenue.
The course prepares students for entry-level positions as a tractor-trailer driver or straight truck driver.
Students will receive classroom, range and highway training for Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), with air brake, tank, hazardous materials and doubles/triples endorsements when applicable.
After students pass the CDL written exam and skills requirements, they will receive an operator’s license from the Alabama Department of Public Safety and a certificate of completion from Shelton State Community College.
To be eligible for enrollment, a students must:
- Have a current Class D driver license with no serious driving violations.
- Be 21 years of age or older for Tractor-Trailer Driver Training
- Be 18 years of age or older for Straight Truck Driver Training
- Pass a Department of Transportation physical
- Pass a drug screen within seven days prior to the start of class
- Pass a current Moving Violations Report from the Department of Public Safety
