Red Flag Warning issued for Marengo

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Red Flag Warning that will be in effect from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. today for 39 counties in central Alabama.

Counties under the warning included Marengo, Sumter, Greene, Hale, Perry, Tuscaloosa and Dallas.

According to the NWS, a dry air mass will settle across central Alabama today as surface high pressure builds into the region. Relative humidity values will fall to or below 25 percent for several hours this afternoon.

During the six-hour stretch, winds are expected to be from the north at approximately 10 miles per hour while relative humidity could drop as low as 20 percent. The combination is expected to result in critical fire weather and outdoor burning is not recommended.
