A black wreath on the bronze plaque in Bryan Whitfield Memorial Hospital’s main hallway signifies the passing of the beloved Mrs. Edith Whitfield. The wife of the late Dr. Fred Whitfield, she dedicated many of her 99 years to the service of the hospital and other worthy causes in and around Demopolis. A true gem, Mrs. Whitfield’s obituary read, in part, “Her loving smile, enthusiasm for service, leadership and kindness worked to bring care and comfort to patients and families in Demopolis in their time of need.” Services for Mrs. Whitfield will be held today at 4 p.m. at First United Methodist Church.
