Miscues spell doom for Lady Tigers

TROY — Demopolis (15-14-1) committed nine errors and spotted Marbury an early lead it could not overcome in a 13-6 loss in the opening round of the Class 5A, South Central Regional Friday afternoon.

Marbury used one hit to score three runs in the first, cashing in on two DHS miscues for the early advantage.

The Lady Tigers answered in the home half of the inning with two runs of its own as Victoria Washburn led off with a single, stole second and scored on a Marbury miscue.

Alexis Jones reached on an infield single and came around to score on a RBI infield hit by Courtney Lawrence.

After Marbury tacked on a run in the second, three MHS hits and two Demopolis errors led to four runs in the third to extend it to an 8-2 Marbury lead.

The Lady Tigers battled back in the third with a three-run rally. Sydney Colyar walked and later scored on a RBI bunt by Lawrence. Zoe Lewis reached on a fielder’s choice and later scored on a wild pitch. Jones singled and scored on a RBI infield single by Jade Montgomery to cut the deficit to 8-5.

DSC_0187Marbury scored twice in the fourth, once in the sixth and twice in the seventh to take a 13-5 advantage before Demopolis added one in the seventh.

Colyar walked and later scored on a RBI single by Lewis to cap the scoring.

Marbury had 10 hits as compared to seven for the Lady Tigers.

DSC_0185Demopolis is scheduled to play at 6:30 p.m. against Chilton County in an elimination game. Should the Lady Tigers win that contest, they would play at 11 a.m. Saturday.
