Marengo High wins over Fruitdale, 50-20

Behind Jatevin Horn’s three rushing touchdowns and Michael Lewis’ two TD tosses, Marengo High School’s Panthers moved to 3-1 on the year with a 50-20 win over Fruitdale Friday night.

“We’re finally putting things together,” said Marengo head coach Dredrick Bell. “They had a pretty good scheme, but we were able to take advantage of some breakdowns in their kicking game and get a couple of long returns. On defense, we didn’t give up any big plays and were able to get a couple of interceptions.”

Cordarius Pritchett had the pair of Panther picks.

Bell praised the running effort from Horn and Shamerian Lewis, who the coach called his “bigger, downhill back.”

Regarding the offense as a whole, Bell added, “We’re starting to open it up a little bit. We’re becoming more physical up front, but we’re still not where we need to be on offense yet.”

Marengo, which sports a perfect 3-0 mark in region play, travels to Akron for a non-region game Friday.
