Marengo Academy girls fall out of ASWA rankings

The first Alabama Sports Writers Association basketball poll of 2015 released Thursday morning. Only three teams in Marengo County were counted among the state’s best teams. The Marengo Academy boys team pulls in at No. 8 in the AISA with a 13-3 record. On the girls side, the MA Lady Longhorns fall out of the Top 10 and into the “Others Nominated” category.

The Lady Longhorns are at 10-3 with a pair of narrow losses to Wilcox Academy and a loss to Patrician Academy. MA finished the 2013-2014 season at 27-0 and won the Class A state championship.

The Demopolis Lady Tigers also are counted among the “Others Nominated” category in Class 5A. The entire poll is as follows:
