Longhorns trample Sparta

EVERGREEN — Marengo Academy (8-0) continued its stretch of dominance Friday with a 55-7 win over Sparta Academy (2-6).

The Longhorns hung 34 points on the board in the first quarter Friday and kept their starters on the sideline in the second half of the rout.

Hayden Huckabee led the way for the Longhorns with five total touchdowns on the night. Huckabee opened the scoring with a 45-yard touchdown run just 26 seconds into the game.

Alston Dinning added to the MA lead with 6:21 to go in the first quarter on a seven-yard run. Huckabee struck again with 5:13 left in the first when he scored on a 60-yard punt return.

Cason Cook piled on even more for MA when he forced and returned a fumble 20 yards for a score. Huckabee found the end zone again with a 4-yard touchdown run with 2:52 left in the first.

With 9:15 to play in the second quarter, Huckabee found the end zone after a 74-yard run. And with 5:44 to go before half, Huckabee score on an 18-yard run.

Cameron Peppenhorst added Marengo’s lone score in the second half when he scored on a 6-yardrun with 4:51 to play in the third quarter. Brant Lewis connected on seven of his eight extra point attempts on the night.

Hayden Hall forced a fumble for the Longhorns. Austen Day recovered a fumble.

Tyler Barkley and Dinning each intercepted a pass for MA.

Will Allen led with seven total tackles while Carson Huckabee added six and Shade Pritchett finished with five.

The Longhorns outgained Sparta 379-201 in the contest. MA is scheduled to host Sumter next Friday night.
