After Jackson Academy took an early 6-0 lead, Marengo Academy found its stride and never looked back en route to a 45-6 thumping to close the regular season Friday night.

Hayden Huckabee scored the first of his five touchdowns with 6:42 to go in the opening frame when he sprinted 36 yards for a score. The Robert Tutt PAT put MA up for good but the scoring was far from over.

Huckabee struck again with 1:18 to play in the frame when he returned an interception 81 yards for a touchdown. Andrew Martin added his own Pick-6 with five seconds left in the quarter.

Huckabee scored on a 78-yard run with 10 minutes to go before half to stretch the lead to 27-6 before adding touchdown runs of 5 and 34 yards to set the halftime lead at 39-6.

Davis Petrey punched in a 3-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to punctuate the Longhorn scoring.

The Longhorns amassed 324 yards of offense including 250 on only 24 carries. Huckabee accounted for 150 yards on the ground on only seven attempts. MA’s defense proved similarly impressive as it held Jackson to 10 yards on 27 carries.

Marengo (8-1) hosts Macon-East in the first round of the playoffs Thursday night.
