Longhorns drop Sumter; finish 2-2 in Macon-East draw
Marengo Academy (15-5) woke its bats up in the second inning Tuesday in a 16-1 rout of Sumter Academy. The Longhorns scored 13 runs in the bottom of the second, overcoming an early 1-0 deficit while sending 19 players to the plate in the frame.
The Longhorns tallied 15 hits in the contest. Jacob Beck went 2-for-4 in the game with a run scored. Weldon Aydelott doubled and scored. Brad Collins was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Austen Day singled and scored. Dalton Daniels went 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
Cody Cobb homered and scored a pair of runs. Hunter Parker scored a run. Dylan Mendenhall finished 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored. John Parker Brock was 2-for-2 with a double and three runs scored.
The win followed a showing in the weekend Macon-East tournament that saw the Longhorns go 2-2. Marengo lost to Macon-East 4-2. Davis Petrey scored both Longhorn runs in the game.
Day pitched a three-hit shutout for Marengo in a 2-0 win over Hooper. Day doubled and scored while Brock singled and scored in the second for the only runs of the game.
Marengo lost to Pike Liberal Arts 3-1 in its second game of the tournament. Petrey singled and scored for the only Longhorn run of the game.
The Longhorns opened their tournament run with a 12-1 thrashing of Wilcox Academy. Petrey finished 4-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored. Beck singled. Aydelott doubled and scored. Collins walked and scored three times. Day singled and scored twice.
Daniels went 2-for-2 with a run scored. Cobb and Cameron Dodd each walked and scored. Brock singled and scored.
