His statistics were far from eye-popping, but every number Linden quarterback C.J. Robinson amassed last week against Washington County mattered.

Robinson ran only five times, tallying 50 yards in the process. While those are not big numbers, nearly every run proved to be a drive extender for the junior signal-caller in his first start. On one such occasion early in the contest, Robinson found himself dead to rights deep in his own backfield with a pair of Washington County defenders bearing down on him. With the punt team ready to take the field, Robinson slipped out of the impending tackle and scooted for a run that got him just beyond the sticks and kept the Linden drive alive.

He was equally as effective through the air. Robinson went only 3 of 6 passing in the game, but made each completion count in the biggest of ways. His first completion of the game came off play-action and found a streaking Jaleel Jones for an 81-yard touchdown strike to give the Patriots an early lead.

He completed his next pass on Linden’s final drive of the game. With Linden trailing 12-7 and facing fourth down and less than two minutes remaining in the contest, Robinson rolled to his right and fired the ball on a line to Dequan Charleston, who made the catch and got both feet just inside the boundary to give the Pats new life.

The Robinson made his biggest throw of all when he surveyed the field with a keenness that belied his relative inexperience and threw to his left to find Charles Blackmon for an 11-yard touchdown that proved the game winner.

The win over the 2A power may not mean much for Linden in terms of determining playoff fate, but it certainly serves as a momentum booster. And it is little short of a milestone debut for Robinson, who will be called upon to make many more such throws over the course of the season.

The performance earned Robinson Player of the Week honors from the ESPN 104.9 Tuesday Night Coaches Show. Robinson, the first such award winner of 2015, appeared on air with the ESPN 104.9 crew Tuesday night at Batter Up Sports Grill in Demopolis and received a commemorative T-shirt.
