Lady Tigers stifle Choctaw County

1-19-2017 — Demopolis, Ala. — Sylvia Clayton (3) drives by a Choctaw County player during the Lady Tiger’s victory on Thursday night.

Demopolis bounced back with authority from its most lackluster performance of the year  Thursday, shelling Choctaw County 55-20 in a suffocating defensive effort.

Demopolis held CCHS to single digit points in ever quarter, holding a 30-13 lead at half before continuing to pile on over the game’s last two quarters.

1-19-2017 — Demopolis, Ala. — Aniya Johnson knocks down a 3-pointer during the Lady Tiger’s victory over Choctaw County on Thursday night.

“We started out very aggressive defensively. That’s what we worked on yesterday in practice. We felt like, the previous game, we did that the first half but we had a major letdown the second half with all the turnovers,” Demopolis coach Tony Pittman said. “So our focus going into practice yesterday was to make sure we re-establish our defense and get out and run the floor. We were able to do that tonight.”

Sylvia Clayton led the Lady Tigers with 15 points. Shakesaney Bell added 12 while Shacorie Cockrell had nine. Aniya Johnson added eight points. Demopolis (10-4) is set to host Sumter Central Friday night in its third game of the week.

“I feel like we’re in great shape with our legs. We prepare for this type of schedule during the summer with our workouts and the way we condition the girls,” Pittman said. “I’m good with that. We’ve just got to maintain our focus and our level of play and we’ll be fine.”
