Lady Tigers split four in Jan Overstreet tourney

Demopolis (8-3) split a quartet of games during the Jan Overstreet Tournament in Thomasville over the weekend.

The Lady Tigers lost its first contest to reigning Class 7A state champion Baker. Taylor Smith doubled and recorded four RBIs in the loss. Natalie Tatum took the loss in the circle.

Demopolis went on to down Excel 8-4. Courtney Smith went 1-for-3 with a run scored and one RBI. Taylor Smith was 1-for-2 with a double, a run and one RBI. Abbey Latham was 1-for-2 with a run and one RBI. Kendall Hannah went 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored. Bria Brown was 1-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Elly Brown finished 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and one RBI. Alex Abrams and Jessica Adams each scored a run.

Kayla Montz picked up the win, allowing four runs and striking out three. Hannah got the save.

Demopolis then beat UMS-Wright 3-1. Holli Gandy was 1-for-2 with a double. Courtney Smith and Abrams each scored a run. Latham was 1-for-3. Hannah was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, two RBIs and her fourth home run of the season.

Hannah also worked five innings in the circle, scattering three hits and four walks while striking out six and giving up one earned run.

The Lady Tigers ended the tournament with a 2-1 loss to Leroy. Latham finished 2-for-2 with a double, a run scored and one RBI. Courtney Smith was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Gandy finished 1-for-2.

Tatum took the loss despite not giving up any earned runs over four and two-thirds and surrendering only two hits. She struck out five.
