Lady Tigers overcome Tuscaloosa County

The Demopolis Lady Tigers (13-13-1) rallied from a 3-1 deficit to beat Tuscaloosa County 4-3 Tuesday evening.DHS vs TCHS-1439

Demopolis took the lead with a two-out rally in the home half of the sixth inning when Courtney Lawrence hit a line-drive single to right with two outs. Jade Montgomery reached on an infield single before both runners advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch. Lawrence came in to score the eventual winning run on a passed ball.

“I’m proud of the way they battled today,” Demopolis coach Joey Browder said. “And they’ve been that way all year.”

The Lady Tigers tied the game in the fifth when Olivia Brame drew a walk ahead of a Victoria Washburn single. A Danielle Tatum single loaded the bases and allowed a two-RBI base hit by Sydney Colyar to knot the score at 3-3.

Demopolis got its first run in the second inning when Zoe Lewis singled and gave way to courtesy runner Jessica Adams, who scored on a RBI single by Montgomery.

Riley King also had a hit in the game for the Lady Tigers.

DHS vs TCHS-1450TCHS got its runs in the first, second and fourth innings. Lewis picked up the win in the circle for Demopolis, working seven innings and surrendering only one earned run.

“Zoe pitched a great ball game,” Browder said. “I think she anchored the win today. She kept going at them and made seven defensive plays herself.”

The Lady Tigers are scheduled to host the area tournament against Selma and Greenville Friday.
