Lady Tigers beat West Blocton, move to 10-6

WEST BLOCTON —The Demopolis High volleyball team (10-6) went on the road to down West Blocton 3-1 Tuesday night.

With three players unavailable for the contest, the Lady Tigers were forced to play with only six girls and no substitutions for the entirety of the match.

“We knew with having such a small roster, that we would eventually have a day like this. As a coach, you just hope your girls will respond,” Demopolis coach Blythe Smith said. “They did today and I was very proud of them.”

The Lady Tigers dropped the first game of the match 25-19 before rallying for three straight wins.

“We made a lot of mistakes, a lot of technical errors that we knew we had to fix,” Smith said of the first match. “There were just a lot of fundamental errors because half our girls weren’t used to playing their positions.”

The Lady Tigers went on to pick up a 25-15 win in game two, a 25-18 win in game three and a 25-22 game four win to seal the match.

“Serves were never a problem,” Smith said of her squad, which has struggled with serves at times over the course of the season. “Service errors weren’t an issue for us.”

Demopolis is set to play its final regular season home game Thursday when it hosts area foe Greenville at 4:30 p.m.
