Lady Tiger rally falls short in regional loss to Clay Central

TROY — Demopolis stranded the tying runs in the bottom of the seventh Friday, falling to Clay Central 6-4 in the Class 5A South Central Regional.

The Lady Tigers trailed 6-1 in the bottom of the seventh when Jessica Adams stroked a leadoff single. Courtney Smith then singled and advanced on a throw to put runners on second and third. Jade Montgomery cashed in on the opportunity with an infield single that scored Adams. An errant throw plated Smith to cut the deficit to 6-3. Natalie Tatum then ripped a single to left to plate Montgomery and make it 6-4. Taylor Smith singled to left to bring the go-ahead run to the plate with two away but Demopolis could not cash in on the chance.

Clay Central scored one in the third for the 1-0 lead before Kendall Hannah drove in Abbey Latham to tie it 1-1 in the fourth. Clay added two in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Hanna Malone started the game in the circle, allowing two hits and one run over three innings. Tatum followed with four innings of work and just one earned run.

The loss sends Demopolis to the losers bracket where it will meet Marbury in an elimination game Friday evening.
