KFC robbery leads to arrest

91538 (2)A daylight robbery attempt at the Demopolis KFC led to the arrest of a Helena man Saturday, July 20.

Demopolis Police Department officers responded to a call regarding a robbery in progress at the KFC restaurant on Highway 80 West at approximately 4:45 p.m. Saturday.

Responding officers learned that a white male wearing a green shirt and black shorts had entered the store with his hands under his shirt and had requested all the cash from the registers.

Upon arrival on the premises, DPD officers learned the suspect had fled. Officers later located the suspect, 24-year-old Justin Taylor Ward of Helena, near the Holifield Clinic on Cedar Avenue where he was reportedly hiding behind the air conditioning units. Ward’s final attempt to flee ended when officers chased him down on foot and apprehended him. Ward is currently charged with Robbery in the First Degree.

DPD Chief Tommie Reese complimented his patrol officers and criminal investigators for their timely work on the case.
