JV baseball comes away winless against ACA

The Demopolis High junior varsity baseball team came out of a double-header winless Tuesday after losing to American Christian Academy 1-0 in the opener and playing to a 9-9 tie in the nightcap.DHS JV vs ACA-9563

Luke Yelverton struck out nine batters and scattered three hits over four innings in the opener. Matthew Trest finished the game with a perfect fifth inning.

Ryan Schroeder went 1-for-3 in the game while Trest went 1-for-2.

In the nightcap, the Tigers struggled to keep ACA off the base paths, allowing the leadoff hitter to reach in every inning. The Tigers surrendered eight walks in the game, allowing five of them to find their way to home plate.

Four Tigers hurlers combined to throw 152 pitches in the contest as Demopolis trailed most of the way.

ACA took a 1-0 lead in the first and stretched it to 4-0 in the top of the third inning. Demopolis stormed back with a four-run home half of the third to tie the game.

The Patriots regained the lead in the top of the fourth with a three spot before hanging two more in the top of the fifth to take a 9-4 advantage.

The Tigers opened the their last at-bat with a Jacob Rodrigues single. Yelverton followed with a walk and Tripp Perry reached on an infield single to load the bases for the Tigers.

DHS JV vs ACA-9965Clay White then drew a walk to force home Rodrigues and cut the deficit to 9-5. The big blow came off the bat of Seth Latham as he ripped an opposite field double to plate Yelverton and Perry and cut the score to 9-7.

Seth Aiken then legged out an infield single to score White. Latham booked it around third on the play to score on the throw to first base.

Schroeder went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, one RBI and a run scored. Aiken singled, knocked in a run, stole a base and scored a run.

Adam Sellers drew a walk. Rodrigues scored two runs and knocked in one. Yelverton walked twice and score once.

Perry singled and scored. White walked twice, picked up a RBI and scored a run. Latham doubled, knocked in two and scored. Trest walked twice, stole a base and scored.
