John Essex overcomes humidity, Sunshine

John Essex head coach Jerome Antone was proud of his team’s toughness following Friday night’s 18-10 win.

“The first game, it was tough. It was humid out there. A lot of kids had cramps,” Antone said.

The Hornets got a pair of touchdowns from Cedric Cooks and one from Demetrius Brock in the win.

“They played hard. Then again, it’s humid out there. I had a lot of kids to cramp up. The kids that were cramping up were my key players. Overall they gave a good effort for the first game,” Antone said. “We made mistakes. We’ll kind of go back to the drawing board and correct those mistakes. Overall, you only have 13 or 14 ballplayers and they played the way they did, you take your hat off to them.”
