Grand jury to hear dog attack case

LEEDS — The case of the dog attack that killed a former Demopolis resident will go before a grand jury according to St. Clair County District Attorney Richard Minor.

Minor stated Friday the case will go before a grand jury in Pell City the week of Dec. 3.

Donald Thomas, 83, died Sept. 20 as the result of an attack by two Rottweilers. Police shot the attacking dogs and seized 33 other canines from the home of Thomas’ neighbors Jerry and Jacqueline Lenton.

The decision whether or not to send the case before a grand jury was delayed while the district attorney’s office awaited the findings of an investigation by the Leeds Police Department.
