Eleanor Graves

Eleanor Chandler Graves, age 96 of Demopolis, died April 11, 2015 in Demopolis. Services will be held on Friday, April 17th at 11:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church in Demopolis with Dr. Foster Eich officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes Demopolis Chapel directing. She was preceded by her beloved husband William Thomas Graves, Jr. (William Thomas Graves and Velma Hand Graves) and her parents Roy Luther Chandler and Florence Virginia Rogers Chandler of Fayette. Survivors include her daughters Virginia Graves (Lawrence Storch) of Washington D.C. and Velma Graves Carlton (Coleman Carlton) of Linden; her grandchildren Benjamin Thomas Storch of Washington D.C., Elizabeth Carlton of Mountain Brook, and John Carlton of Tuscaloosa; sister Carolyn Berry (Horace Berry) of Fayette; and many nieces and nephews. She was born on October 7, 1918 in Fayette, graduated from Fayette High School and received a B.S. Degree from the University of Alabama. She met her loving husband while teaching school in Demopolis and later joined the Graves family business. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the choir, and the Colonial Book Club. She loved her family, her church, her friends, and sports especially playing golf and bridge. Pallbearers will be Breck Graves, Jimbo Graves, Jimmy Berry, Layton Jackson, Stephen Fowler and Dan Wilson. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church. A special thank you to all the caregivers, sitters, Southern Oak staff members, Woodhaven Manor staff and the Bryan Whitfield Memorial hospital staff who provided such comfort to her.
