West Alabama quarterback Dezmon Huntley has been named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week for his performance in the Tigers’ 34-8 victory over Cumberland.

Huntley sparked UWA’s offense in the second half after taking over for injured starter Trent Thompson. The Mableton, Ga. native responded by leading UWA to 27 unanswered points.

Huntley ran for a game-high 85 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. He also completed all four passes he threw for 100 yards and two more scores.

West Alabama plays its first road game of the season Saturday at Miles College. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
