Demopolis QB holding Color Me Blue 5K Run

The Demopolis High School Quarterback Club is trying its hand at a unique fundraiser this spring. The QB club will host a Color Me Blue 5K Run May 17 at the Demopolis Sports-Plex.

“Our quarterback club came up with this idea. Some of our parents have run in one in Tuscaloosa,” Demopolis football coach and athletic director Tom Causey said of the event. “We call it the Color Me Blue 5K. You go through each station and the shirt that you have on, they put a powdered dye on there at each station and it ends up being a tie-dyed shirt at the end of the race.”

Race registration is already open. Those who register by April 21 will receive a Color Me Blue 5K T-shirt.

“We do encourage people to register ahead of time so we’ll have an accurate count of T-shirts and they’ll have their Color Me Blue 5K shirt for the event itself,” Causey said.

Registration fee is $25 per person for those who register by April 21. Children seven and under are free if participating with a registered adult. Registration after April 21 increases to $35 per person. Registration forms are available at Demopolis High School, Demopolis Middle School and the Robertson Bank Westside Branch.

“It’s all about having fun, going out and competing and just doing something a little bit healthy and being able to help out the quarterback club as we do it,” Causey said. “April and May is a good time of year to go do it, a beautiful time of the year. It is something new and something different. I think it is going to be a big success and hope everybody will jump in on it.”
