Demopolis Police Department sergeant arrested

DEMOPOLIS, AL—Sgt. Derrick Carter, a 16 year veteran of the Demopolis Police Department, has been terminated from the force following an internal investigation into misconduct according to Chief Tommie Reese. Carter was arrested and charged with domestic violence assault, third degree on Friday, July 3. He was released on $1,000 bond. 

“Our police officers are held to a much higher standard and we must maintain that standard in order to earn and keep the public’s trust,” Reese said.

The State Bureau of Investigations has been called to investigate the case.
